Final Call for RRT Study 2!

RRT Study 2 is drawing to a close with the beginning of April 2013. If you have submitted the pre-treatment assessments for a client and anticipate completing treatment and collecting the post treatment assessments within the next few weeks, please contact me directly at 352-476-5599. Otherwise Dr. Tom Dikel will begin analyzing the data submitted thus far, and the research team will start drafting the write-up of our results.

We are excited that our work has inspired newly trained Rapid Resolution Therapists to identify new research opportunities. Congrats to Chris Harris who now has the approval of his doctoral committee to conduct an evidenced based study of RRT. We also want to thank David Monroe who just completed a Level I workshop and endorsed how valuable his RRT training has been for his clients. David's recommendations to Dr. Rick Doblin of the Public Policy, Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University has resulted in an invitation for consultation on future studies. Many thanks to all who continue to make miracles in their practice and are willing to share their results with us!

Warmest!
Sharon

IRRT Research Update! Final Opportunity to Volunteer!

IRRT Research Update

This month is the final opportunity for certified RRT practitioners to volunteer for our evidenced based research project. If you anticipate seeing at least one trauma client this month, please call me to obtain the pre and post treatment paperwork so we can boast our total study numbers. Without additional volunteers, our study will not meet our end goals.

RRT Study 2 Deadline Extended Through April 2013

IRRT Research Update

Our research study deadline has been extended through April to allow for more participation by qualified therapists. We have passed the halfway mark and are closing in on the finish. Our goal is to have at least 60 volunteer clients who have experienced trauma, sign a consent form and complete pre and post treatment assessments (the Post Traumatic Checklist PCL-C, the Beck Depression Inventory-Second Edition BDI-II and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI)).

This critical study is open to any RRT Certified Practitioner (CP) who has had at least 100 hours of training (any combination of Level 1 & 2 weekends and/or retreats within the past 2 years) or one who has been practicing  RRT for at least 2 years. CP therapists can submit up to 5 client packets. If you qualify for the study and can treat even one client, we would be grateful to have the utmost in diversity of therapists. If you would like to volunteer for the study (or can recommend another therapist), please contact me at Drsrichie@earthlink.net. If you still have the original client packets, please remember that our Study Administrator is Shanley Lawler, and she can be reached at 845-499-8573

If you missed the January 31st case review conference call, be sure to read the transcripts and listen to the conference recording. Dr. Jon provided several new illustrations to help everyone better understand and work with clients with addictions and those who want to get their mind to work with focused intention.

Warmest!
Sharon

IRRT Research Update

Measures reflect statistically significant reduction in PTSD-related symptomology

Our goal to complete this IRRT study has been extended until April 1st to allow current research study therapists to complete their post-treatment testing and to invite other eligible therapists (100 hours of RRT training or 2 years of practice post Level 2 training) to volunteer for the study. We are about halfway there and need new therapists to volunteer. Our trending is all that we hoped, so we just need more therapists and clients to volunteer for this critical study to provide evidenced based research for our work. It's not to late to participate in this seminal study. The positive results thus far have encouraged us to extend our study deadline until April 1, 2013!

Contact Dr. Sharon Richie-Melvan at drsrichie@earthlink.net for more information.

Warmest!
Sharon

IRRT Research Study Update

By Sharon Richie-Melvan, Ph.D.
Certified Practitioner, Rapid Resolution Therapy
IRRT Research Director

Thank you, thank you, thank you to the 19 certified practitioners who have volunteered to participate in the IRRT Study 2 Research Project thus far! Every qualified CP who attended the California Level III retreat volunteered to be part of the study and we are so very grateful. If you have been thinking about it, know that it is not too late to participate. Contact us today if you want to be a part of this ground breaking study.

Please note that our study administrator Denise Smith just relocated from Philadelphia to Florida. Her new telephone number is 352.419.4434 and new mailing address is 15 N. Archwood Drive Inverness, FL 34450. We have changed all her contact information on the new study packets. Even though Denise does yeomen work sending out the study packets and processing the CP qualification forms and client consent forms; her valiant efforts were thwarted this month with Florida's weather challenges. Please understand that we have had some unexpected delays in processing a few study packets. They are on the way to you!

We heard your suggestions and have made changes to simplify the study packets and the study process. All new packets now contain multiple copies of our screening form the Life Events Checklist (LEC), stamps and envelopes pre-addressed to Dr. Tom Dikel in Gainesville. If you need more supplies just call Denise. Also new in the process is that there is no need to individually mail in the LEC forms of those clients who are screened out or those who decline to participate. Instead feel free to batch the forms and mail them in weekly. The LEC's are a critical part of this research process, so that we can show evidence that we have accounted for every single client seen by a CP during their participation in the study.

To ensure that each IRRT Study 2 CP is getting our research process updates in a timely manner, we will begin sending out individual emails. Please keep those ideas and suggestions flowing back to us, call me (352.476.5599) if you have questions and know how very much each of you are appreciated!

IRRT Pilot Study Results from the 24th Annual US Psychiatric Mental Health Congress Poster Session

The results of our 2011 IRRT Pilot study were presented at the 24th Annual U.S. Psychiatric and Mental Health Congress Poster Session, Venetian Hotel on November 8, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The RRT poster elements and the accompanying white paper "An Evaluation of Rapid Resolution Therapy for Post-Trauma Survivors" can be found under our new "Research" button at www.cleartrauma.com. The conference participants included 75% psychiatrists/other physicians and 14 percent nurse practitioners/psychiatric nurses; with 45% office based, 25% community based and 18 percent hospital based. We had brisk traffic by our poster table and it generated much interest our RRT treatment and training throughout the day.

The pilot study validated the PCL-C (17 item PTSD Checklist-Civilian Version) as a quick, efficient and reliable tool to measure the degree of PTSD in our RRT clients and in the control group of clients treated at Manatee Glens. A comparison of pre and post treatment scores demonstrated a clinically significant improvement in the trauma scores after one session of RRT treatment for four of five RRT clients (one client's scores did not change). Of the two Manatee Glens clients who returned their post treatment PCL-C, one demonstrated a reliable improvement (not by chance) and the other had no change after eight weeks of CBT treatment. We extend our sincere thanks to our volunteer RRT therapists who helped with the study and to our research partners Manatee Glens Non-Profit Behavioral Health Hospital & Out-Patient Practice, the University of Portland and Georgia State University.

With our lessons learned, the IRRT is now ready to move forward with an expanded study in January 2012. RRT Study 2 will include 60 RRT clients and qualified volunteer certified RRT therapists (professional degree with minimum of 100 RRT training hours). We are identifying a second assessment tool (in addition to the PCL-C) for Study 2 which will enhance our ability to publish our findings in several professional journals. All study documents (ie., welcome letter, invitation flyers, consent forms, assessment tools, data sheets and stamped/addressed envelopes) will be provided to the RRT therapists. Stay tuned at the research button for updates and be ready for our announcements and invitations to participate in Study 2.

The Institute For Rapid Resolution Therapy Partners with the University of Portland and Manatee Glens for PTSD Research Study

The Institute for Rapid Resolution Therapy has partnered with the University of Portland and Manatee Glens to conduct a research study to scientifically demonstrate the effectiveness of Rapid Resolution Therapy™ (RRT) for the treatment of trauma patients, specifically those suffering from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The study that begins on February 26 and continues through May 30 will be conducted through Manatee Glens, a non-profit behavioral health hospital and outpatient practice. Participants in the research study can be anyone who has experienced trauma, big or small such as domestic violence, rape, or incest; a car accident, fire, gang fight or military combat; and/or unresolved ongoing grief. These individuals may be experiencing anger, resentment, guilt, shame, nightmares, phobias, and/or panic attacks. Registration is required with Manatee Glens.

Manatee Glens screens all candidates prior to the study, where half will be placed with a RRT therapist and half will receive the traditional cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) from Manatee Glens. Participants will receive pro bono services for RRT treatment, provided by either the founder of RRT, Dr. Jon Connelly, or RRT Certified Master Practitioners.

The goal of the study is to provide evidence-based-research of the effectiveness of RRT as a treatment modality for trauma. "There is increased recognition in the mental health field of the importance of conducting research within clinical settings, such as outpatient settings, where mental health service actually takes place," says Melinda Paige, Ed.S, LMHC, NCC, a Certified Master Practitioner in RRT. "Since RRT has a 30-year history of anecdotal clinical evidence, the goal of this study is to measure these reported decreases in posttraumatic symptoms and document this evidence in the trauma literature." Unlike other approaches to trauma treatment which require the client to experience painful emotions while reliving the trauma, RRT clears the effects of trauma gently and painlessly. RRT is an integrative and holistic approach that completely resolves the psychological and physiological effects of trauma.

Candidates interested in applying for participation in the research study may apply in person at the Manatee Glens Walk-In Center located at 371 6th Avenue West in Bradenton or Manatee Glens Access Center at 2020 26th Avenue East in Bradenton. For more information about this study, please contact Research Coordinator Dr. Sharon Richie-Melvan at 352-476-5599. Other members of the research team include Diane Vines, PhD (University of Portland) and Melinda Paige, Ed.S (Georgia State University); with critical guidance from Roger Weed, PhD, and Greg Brack PhD, both from the Georgia State University.
